Hello !

- Bought iPhoto on the Mac App Store a few months ago
- Did a clean install of 10.6.8 today.
- Tried to install newest iPhoto version. --> This failed, because the latest iPhoto needs at least 10.seven.4

How exercise I go a working version of iPhoto for ten.6.eight ?

No, I don't take a backup of my application folder. (Because the Mac App Store conspicuously states, that "apps tin can be re-downloaded at any time without additional costs")
No, I don't take whatsoever other Macs with an older iPhoto version.
No, updating to Panthera leo is non an selection for me.

If your Mac shipped with Snow Leopard, iLife should be available on the Applications Install disc that came with the Mac. In-box discs are machine-specific and are grey in colour.

Alternatively, practice you have a friend with a Mac with Lion that y'all could log into the App Shop nether your account, download iPhoto, and copy information technology over to your Snow Leopard Mac? I presume that would work, since you'd exist downloading it in your name and transferring information technology, kind of like how transferring purchases used to work in iTunes.

My Mac Pro shipped with Tiger.

Fifty-fifty if I could become my hands on the new version of iPhoto (v9.three): It would non work with x.6.8. The system requirements clearly land that it needs 10.vii.4.

The one-time version (v9.2.3) that worked on Snow Leopard, is not available anymore and the Mac App Store Back up is non able (or willing) to provide me with that particular version.

Wow, I'm stumped. After reviewing Apple tree's site, it seems you are correct. I'g kind of surprised that Apple won't give you lot the version uniform with your arrangement. Information technology gets really frustrating peculiarly since Apple will release updates cutting off compatibility with older systems (i.due east., iWork '09 was initially compatible with PPC and Tiger/Leopard, merely only in the pre nine.1 updates). It tin can get extremely disruptive. Information technology doesn't seem fair that yous bought information technology when information technology was compatible with Snow Leopard and now the simply reason you tin can't access it is because they decided cutting you off with an update. ix.ii.three was released in March of this year, less than three months ago, and nine.3 was simply terminal week!

Simply then again, Apple isn't exactly fond of supporting "legacy" systems.

The only solution I can think of, which isn't a very skillful solution, is to get a retail disc of iLife 'eleven and update manually to nine.2.3.

Pitiful, wish I could assist more.

An alternative way for you to get iPhoto 9.2.3 is to download the updater. The updater is the full app just does require a previous eligible version to exist installed. To go around this, use Pacifist to install information technology.

I followed upwardly with the Mac App Store Support.
They answered again with the same info: "Unfortunately, the version offered in the Mac App Store will crave Lion, which y'all will need to redownload in order to have the apps office properly. Your apps volition simply work for x.7.4 or later. Again, the Mac App Store does non offer older versions of the iLife apps." (or any other apps)
They and so recommended to contact AppleCare.

I just got off the phone with the german AppleCare Center.
In brusque, they we're stumped ("It's the commencement time nosotros hear most this"), they apologized and they will send me an iLife '11 DVD for free. (I also was not charged for the "back up incident".)

(As all of you lot probably know: The iLife 11 DVD contains Snow Leopard-compatible versions of iPhoto and iMovie, which I tin manually update to the latest Snowfall Leopard-uniform version past downloading the updaters from Apple tree's Support department.)

Thank you for all your advice and I hope this info will assist all other people who run into the aforementioned problem.

The lesson I have learned:

Not TRUE. KEEP BACKUPS OF YOUR APPLICATION FOLDER !

Yay! I'k glad they were able to aid you lot! I had a like trouble when iLife '08 came out and they send me a DVD for information technology (or was it a CD dorsum and then?).

I guess what the App Store said wasn't technically incorrect - you can redownload apps, assuming y'all system works with the latest version. That being said, though, making your own backups ensures you have control over whether or not you lot have admission to the application. Who knows? Apple tree could but make iPhoto disappear at any time (though that's unlikely).

dZp, thanks for the Pacifist link. I had never heard of that! That might come in handy some day downwards the road.

2 issues with that link -
The link to that update was already provided to a higher place in post #8.
Downloading the update is not helpful if the prerequisite of iPhoto 9.1 is not already installed.

If the OP (from more than 3 years agone) has non moved on nevertheless, and did non take a backed upwards installer for iLife '11, so the updater does no skillful at all.

1:The previous link did no good for me, information technology was a bad link.
2:I did non have any iphoto installed and this installed fine.
3:I was non posting for the OP, i was posting for anyone like me who has 10.6.8 and needs ilife.
